F-PHOENIX DBM ®

F-PHOENIX DBM ® demineralized bone fibers are derived from cortical bone that has undergone a demineralization process to dissolve hydroxyapatite crystals. This process activates the contained DBM and releases growth factors (BMP osteoinductive proteins). F-PHOENIX DBM ® will then induce differentiation of the surrounding cells, actively participating in the reconstruction and remodeling of the recipient site.

The benefits

At TBF, we design our grafting products with a constant focus on quality, safety and clinical performance. Every PHOENIX® bone graft is prepared according to rigorous, scientifically validated processes that comply with the most stringent regulatory requirements.

Osteoinductive effect

Thanks to its osteoinductive proteins BMP2 and BMP7, F-PHOENIX DBM ® demineralized bone fibers induce differentiation of surrounding cells and accelerate bone reconstruction and remodeling at the recipient site.

Unique treatment process

The F-PHOENIX DBM ® process is a specific viral inactivation, delipidation, freeze-drying and radiosterilization treatment offering every possible guarantee of harmlessness.

Proof of effectiveness

The effect of F-PHOENIX DBM ® is controlled and guaranteed for each batch by the systematic PAL functional test, which measures Alkaline Phosphatase.

Product treatments

The F-PHOENIX DBM® process, a secure, controlled industrial process exclusive to TBF. This process is a specific treatment for viral inactivation, delipidation, freeze-drying and radiosterilization, offering every possible guarantee of harmlessness. Production takes place in ISO6 & ISO7 controlled atmosphere zones.

  1. Decortication

Cutting and removing cartilage and cortical bone from the femoral head to allow good solvent penetration.

  2. Mechanical and chemical treatments

Viral, bacterial and fungal inactivation with successive baths of ethanol, chloroform, then hydrogen peroxide H₂O₂ (hydrogen peroxide) and finally hydrochloric acid HCl (concentration of 0.6 mol for 24 h). This last bath demineralizes the cortical bone, releasing hydroxyapatite crystals as well as BMP growth factors and obtaining demineralized bone fibers that contain less than 5% calcium.

  3. Grinding

    Translucent, sticky fibers after rehydration

  4. Lyophilization

In order to dehydrate bone tissue in depth in a reproducible way, guaranteeing long-term preservation of bone tissue characteristics at room temperature.

  5. Gamma radiosterilization

Between 25 and 32 kGy, validated according to ISO 11137 standards, this process aims to cleanse bone trabeculae and chemically inactivate potential microorganisms. This inactivation has been proven by Institut Pasteur-Texcell on highly resistant viruses. The ISO 9001 certification ensures the reproducibility of the F-PHOENIX DBM® process through a strict quality assurance system.

  6. Final packaging and storage

Shelf life of 5 years at room temperature.
Throughout the F-PHOENIX DBM® process, multiple quality control steps are performed to ensure that each PHOENIX® graft fully meets TBF’s strict standards before being released.

Do you have any questions?

I would like to donate a femoral head to TBF. What should I do?

The collection activity must be set up via a tripartite agreement between the head of the hospital, the collecting surgeon and the Tissue Bank director. TBF provides team training, a collection kit and weekly telephone follow-up. The surgeon is responsible for informing the patient that surgical residue tissue is to be harvested for therapeutic use.

Is allograft transplantation really safe?

At TBF, the quality and safety protocol for tissue harvesting follows rigorous steps, including clinical and biological graft selection. In addition to this, we use exclusive, secure processes for in-depth cleaning and inactivation of viruses and prions. All our grafts have a 5-year shelf-life and undergo gamma radiosterilization. Rigorous controls are carried out throughout the process.

Why put your trust in TBF for allografts?

  • Its anteriority
  • Its safety
  • Its proven & published clinical efficacy
  • Its innovations

Why use DBM in addition to a mineralized bone graft?

Thanks to the BMP proteins physiologically contained in F-PHOENIX-DBM ® demineralized cortical bone fibers, osteoinduction is guaranteed. PHOENIX® mineralized bone graft and F-PHOENIX-DBM® demineralized cortical bone fiber blends secure bone fusion through combined osteoconduction and osteoinduction.
